Second Week in Brownwood

Hey all,

Things aren't too bad here.

The other day, we went on the bikes for the first time - I hadn't even ridden mine yet.

We were biking across town to get to the chapel to do a lesson there, and I was running out of steam every minute! I'm going to get more exercise. We got to the chapel, and the investigator cancelled at the last minute so we had to bike back. Just before we left, we found out that the front brake pads were too tight, and were holding the wheel in place. Elder Jenkins loosened them, and it was much easier to ride. I still need more exercise, though, and Fast Sunday is hard when you're out biking all day.

Oh, today is Cinco de Mayo - or fifth of May - which is one of two Mexican independences (one from the French, and one from Spain - the other is in September but I'm not sure which is which). Last Saturday, we went to a Cinco de Mayo cook-off, and we got to eat tamales and briskets, which both were really good.

Did I tell you about the joke that Elder Jenkins played?
We were finding [tracking] along a street and came up to this one door. It opened, and this man with a big, long gun was standing there. We introduced ourselves, and said why we were there. My companion asked what kind of gun that was, and he said "the kind that hurts". I was thinking that this guy is really weird. We kept talking, but then he interrupted and said, "Why don't we play a game? You run as fast as you can and tell me if it really does hurt," motioning to the gun. He didn't really scare me so much as make me think that he's absolutely nutty. Then he put on this big smile and said, "Hi, I'm President Timmons". He turned out to be the branch president. Yesterday, I got to tell that story as part of my testimony during fast and testimony meeting

As for groceries, we haven't had to buy much, since we've been fed quite often. We also have been too busy to do much ‘finding’, but it's slowing down, so we're going to have to start doing more.

Anyways, it's great here. We're working hard, and it's a lot of fun. I don't have time to write everyone individually, but I read every letter. …And it's kind of weird reading letters; I'm so used to hearing you, and the letters don't sound like the way you'd talk.

There's a lot of other stuff, and a lot of stuff coming up, but I have to go now - talk again soon!

The church is true.
I love you all!

BAHAHAHA!
That's honestly the best thing I've ever heard! "Why don't you run..." A gun...as IF.

That's so funny. Your branch president is awesome.

Haha....and your bike. Has it gotten any easier yet? When I was biking to work...I honestly thought I was going to die if I had to pedal any further the first couple of times. It gets easier though ;)

I've been told I write the way I talk...so maybe when you read mine it won't be weird! :D ....Then again, we've mostly written to ech other, so maybe you just find it weird when you actually DO hear me speaking.

P.S.
You said you didn't really have enough time to write all your family...I'm guessing you won't be writing me either. But hey, this is okay. I could deal with a universal letter.

Oh! And, while reading I found the e-mail address I can write to! AND your mailing address! So: I'm going to check with Nathan and see if I'm ALLOWED to write to your e-mail address...and if not, I'll write you a nice long letter updating you on MY oh so fascinating life. And...even if I CAN e-mail you (which would be a million times easier)--I'll write you a couple by hand too. Cause lets face it...REAL mail is so much more fun to get.

Your in my prayers Elder Wong ;)
Marissa

P.S.
Aw.....that was the last letter from you....hrm. Looking forward to Monday!! :D
